A 24-year-old driver from Dingli was critically injured last night when his Isuzu Gemini vehicle left the road and overturned on the Coast Road, crashing into a bus shelter close to the Splash and Fun Park.

The accident happened at about 9.15 p.m.

The man was extracted from the wreck by rescuers of the Civil Protection Department and is in intensive care at Mater Dei Hospital. 

The road was partially closed while investigations were held.
