A court yesterday issued a treatment order for a man who struggles to control his anger.

Romania-born Richard Dean Monaco, 19, of Msida, will also have to do 100 hours of community work during a three-year probation period imposed on him by the court for an incident in the early hours of September 25.

An exchange of remarks led to a brawl between Mr Monaco, a friend of his and two men from Spain, Thomasz Okon and Barquilla Izquierdo Julio Alberto.

Mr Monaco pleaded guilty to assaulting and seriously injuring the two Spaniards as they were walking on the Sliema promenade.

Magistrate Aaron Bugeja noted that Mr Monaco had never been granted bail and had been remanded in preventive arrest since September. In a pre-sentencing report ordered by the court, probation officer Charisse Briffa said Mr Monaco had an anger management problem and recommended it be addressed through a treatment order.

Magistrate issued a three-year treatment order for the problem

Taking into consideration that he was a relapser, Magistrate Bugeja placed Mr Monaco on probation for three years, ordered him to do 100 hours of community work ,and also issued a three-year treatment order to address his anger management problem. The magistrate also ordered progress reports every six months.

Police Inspector Elton Taliana prosecuted. Lawyer Carmelo Mifsud Bonnici was defence counsel.
