An attempted theft on an 81-year old man left the victim nursing slight injuries and the alleged culprit was remanded in custody after pleading not guilty upon his arraignment.

Simon Borg, a 33-year old Żebbuġ resident, was taken to court on Tuesday charged with attempted aggravated theft and slightly injuring uon his elderly victim who was made to suffer as a result of the aggression.

The man was further charged with committing the said offences while under the operative period of a suspended sentence, breaching the conditions of bail granted in March and being a relapser.

Prosecuting Inspector Robert Vella explained how the man had allegedly preyed upon the elderly man in Marsa on Monday at around 11am. The victim apparently resisted and ended up being slightly injured after being pushed to the ground.

During his arraignment on Tuesday before duty magistrate Neville Camilleri, the accused denied the charges. No request for bail was made at this stage.
