A Libyan man yesterday adamantly refused to wait for his lawyer and insisted on pleading guilty to theft from a Paceville nightclub earlier this month.

Ali Muftah, 24, insisted that he wanted to plead guilty to the charges even though his legal aid lawyer was not present in the courtroom.

But Magistrate Josette Demicoli would not allow him to admit to something without first consulting his lawyer and understanding the consequences.

Mr Muftah began getting restless and could not understand why he was not being allowed to plead guilty to something he had committed.
