A man allegedly seen by his employers 'stealing' tools was this morning granted bail against a personal guarantee of €7,000 and a deposit of €2,000.

John Caruana, 50, from Marsaxlokk was allegedly seen by Daniel Farrugia and Ian Tabone, from DIS Equipment in Attard taking more than €2,000 worth of scaffolding and tools on a surveillance camera. He pleaded not guilty.

The camera had been set up after his employers suspected he had been taking items from the company bit by bit over a period of a few weeks.

Once he realised they were on to him, Mr Caruana tried to drive away and almost knocked them over, police sources said.
