A 35-year-old man has been granted bail against a personal guarantee of €5,000 after he pleaded not guilty to acquiring, producing or disseminating child pornography.

Charlemagne Caruana, of St Julian's, was also charged with misuse of electronic equipment.

Mr Caruana allegedly logged on to websites that contained child pornography on Tuesday and in the preceding months. Sources said Interpol intercepted his browsing history and the Malta police were informed about the case.

Lawyers Joe Giglio, Yanika Camilleri, Vincent Micallef and Andy Ellul appeared for Mr Caruana.

Inspector Joseph Busuttil prosecuted.
