A 33-year-old man was remanded in custody after pleading not guilty to holding Carmel Muscat hostage for 11 hours, trying him to a chair and torturing him.

Vincent Attard, pleaded not guilty to holding Carmel Muscat against his will, attempting to seriously injure him, stealing under €232 from him, threatening and assaulting him, breaching the conditions of a previous release and relapsing.

This allegedly took place between October 11 and 12 at 109, Republic Street, Valletta.

Magistrate Lawrence Quintano said in court that the charges were stomach-churning.
