A man was caught in possession of a small amount of heroin and a four-inch flick-knife during a surprise inspection by a police car on patrol.

The 23-year-old from Qormi admitted to the charges brought against him.

Magistrate Tonio Micallef Trigona placed him on probation for two years and extended a two-year suspended sentence handed down in November 2014 by a further four years.

The court heard how the acused acted suspiciously when he realised a police car was approaching in Gżira. When the police officer approached, he was seen trying to hide something in his car. A search was conducted and the police found a small quantity of heroin and a flick-knife.

Police Inspector Jason Sultana prosecuted while lawyers Keith Borg and Carlos Bugeja appeared for the man.
