The drug trafficking trial by jury of Stanley Chircop, 38 of Fgura, started this morning.

He is pleading not guilty to trafficking in cocaine and heroin and possesion of the drugs in 1997 and 1998.

The prosecution is basing its case on the testimony of various witnesses who after being arrested themselves are claiming to have obtained drugs from Mr Chircop.

Aaron Bugeja, senior lawyer at the Attorney General's Office is leading the prosecution. Joe Brincat is defence counsel.
