A man who was jailed for his part in the Chief Justice Noel Arrigo bribery case today lost a request for compensation which he had made following a traffic accident in December 2000.

Joseph Zammit , 66, known as is sei, had sought compensation after he was injured and suffered 10% disability in a road accident near Luqa. He had been a passenger in a Seat Ibiza driven by Paul Mallia which was involved in a crash with a Hyundai Excel driven by Joseph Bonello.

Mr Bonello had been acquitted by the Magistrates' Court of negligent driving after the court found conflicting evidence.

The court this morning ruled that Mr Bonello was not solely responsible for the accident and the damages suffered by Mr Zammit , and compensation, therefore, could not be given.

One of the witnesses in the case was Anthony Grech Sant, another man who was also jailed for his part in the Noel Arrigo case. He told the court that he had known Mr Zammit for a number of years and had agreed to employ him with his company a short time before this collision.

However he could not take up the job because of the accident.
