A 23-year-old Ghanaian national was jailed eight months and fined €750 after he admitted to trafficking cannabis last year.

Joseph Boatimah was caught red-handed by police as he sold two packets of cannabis to another man in October last year. The man said he bought the drugs from Mr Boatimah for €30.

Magistrate Natasha Galea Sciberras noted that, even though Mr Boatimah had pleaded guilty, it could not be considered to be an early guilty plea since it came after the prosecution had produced its evidence in court.

Police Inspector Pierre Grech prosecuted.
