David Delia, a 20-year-old man from Cospicua, has been jailed two-and-a-half years and fined €2,300 for stealing €4,000 from Fair Play in Zabbar on New Year’s Eve.

Mr Delia also admitted to being in possession of an imitation pistol, driving without insurance, breaching a probation order and relapsing.

The accused had planned and carried out the theft with the help of Fair Play employee Jean Paul Vella, 26, of Zabbar.

Mr Vella, who had a clean criminal record, was given a two-year jail term suspended for four years.

Magistrate Consuelo Scerri Herrera noted that the stolen money had been returned and that Mr Vella had cooperated with the police.
