A Serbian national was jailed for six months today after being convicted of the possession of false passports.

The police told the court that three passports had been found in the possession of the man, Stanenkovic Marko, who was accused of falsifying passports. The man had originally been charged under the name Godac Marco.

Inspector Anne-Marie Micallef said the police were still awaiting information from Belgrade to actually confirm the identity of the man.

The police started their investigations after his flatmate sought their assistance so that she could remove her items from the flat they shared for eight weeks in Marsascala. She had decided to move out after friends warned her that the man was a heroin abuser and that she would have to be careful not to anger him as he carried a knife.

The woman, Rachael Kershaw, had told the court that her flatmate had previously confessed to her that he stole €50,000 from a man in Serbia and possessed two false passports.
