A 44-year-old man from Zebbug has been jailed for five years after pleading guilty to participating in cybersex with several minors and defiling two children, aged 12 and 13.

The man, whose name cannot be published by court order to protect the identity of the young victims, admitted to defiling the two boys throughout April and the preceding months.

The court heard how the man used to engage in sexual activities over the internet, through chat sites and Skype. He admitted to sexually propositioning the children.

He also admitted to being in possession of several indecent photographs of young children which were found on the computers seized by the police.

Furthermore, he admitted to breaching a suspended sentence over similar incidents and to being a relapser. Sources said he was on the sex offenders’ list.

Magistrate Francesco Depasquale brought this suspended jail term into effect and jailed him for a total of five years.

He also placed him under a treatment order.

Police inspector Joseph Busuttil prosecuted. Lawyer Alfred Abela appeared for the accused.
