A 26-year-old man was yesterday jailed for two years after he admitted to 12 counts of theft including that of a car.

The man, who was 17 at the time, was arrested in Żurrieq after the police received a phone call about a number of thefts from a car park in Industry Road, Kirkop in October 2001. He was arrested in a stolen car on site, carrying tools.

During interrogation, he admitted that he had a serious drug problem and told the police about other thefts they were still investigating.

Magistrate Audrey Demicoli took into consideration the fact that he had cooperated with the police and had a serious drug problem.

Police Inspector Walter Spiteri prosecuted.

The man is not being named as he was a minor at the time he committed the crimes.
