Some €6,000 in cash and cheques were stolen in a hold-up at St Paul' Bay this morning, but recovered by the police after a short while.

The cash was stolen from a 68-year-old man from St Paul's Bay who was stopped by a hooded man at Triq il-Kahli at 5.30 a.m. 

The thief is reported to have used pepper spray during the theft.

The police said they found the cash in a bag a short time later.

Investigations are continuing.

The victim is being treated in hospital.
