A man was hospitalised this morning after sustaining grievous injuries during a hold-up at his shop in Our Lady of Sorrows Street, Pieta. He is not in a critical condition.

The police said the hold-up took place at around 7.15 a.m.

A hooded person armed with a firearm entered the shop and asked the owner for money. The owner refused to give the thief the cash and the attacker hit him and ran away.

The owner was taken to hospital by ambulance.

An inquiry is being held.
