An 18-year-old man from Gżira escaped with slight injuries after an armed and hooded thief stormed into a confectionary in San Ġwann and made off with some €200 in cash on Monday night.

The thief entered the shop in Wilġa Street at about 9.45 p.m. and demanded the money from the teenager, an employee at the confectionery.

The police did not specify how the man was injured.

At the time of the incident, a 15-year-old girl was inside the shop but she was not hurt.

Duty Magistrate Silvio Meli was informed and appointed experts to help him in the inquiry. There has been a spate of hold-ups in the past weeks. This San Ġwann incident was the second in just over two hours. Earlier, about €150 were stolen in a hold-up on a shop in Balzan.
