A man driving a rental car was hospitalised following a collision with a bus moving in the same direction along Valley Road in Msida yesterday.

The car, a Peugeot 206, was on the inside lane when the collision took place, damaging its bonnet, windscreen and driver’s door. The collision happened shortly after 1 p.m. as both vehicles headed in the direction of Birkirkara.

Paramedics on the scene immobilised the man, a 30-year-old Libyan residing in Msida, and put him on a stretcher until personnel from the Civil Protection Department moved him into an ambulance.

The police said later he suffered only slight injuries.

The bus was being driven by a 23-year-old from Marsaxlokk. Police closed off one lane and redirected traffic, causing a tail-back because the road is a main thoroughfare.

At about the same time, a four-car front-to-rear collision in Mikiel Anton Vassalli Street, also in Msida, again held up traffic for a while. Police sources said no one was seriously injured but a person was hospitalised.
