A man who was accused of breaching bail conditions was let off the hook by a court this morning when it emerged that he had been locked out by his mother, with whom he lives.

Jeffrey Cassar, 29 of Mosta, was taken to court after a policeman found him outside his mother's home yesterday.

But in court the mother confirmed that it was she who locked him out. She said he had a gambling problem and she could not cope with him any more.

A police inspector said he had only now found out what had happened.

The accused had been on bail for three separate cases.
