A man who emptied his refuse truck at the entrance of a waste management site was today fined €2,330 by the Criminal Appeals Court. He also had his licence revoked.

The Magistrates' Court had originally found Lorenzo Attard guilty of depositing waste material at the entrance of Il-Qortin waste management site, limits of Xagħra in Gozo on June 28 last year.

The court heard how Mr Attard had arrived at the site a few minutes after 7 p.m. and employees told him that he could not enter as the site was closed.

Mr Attard promptly emptied his truck in front of the main gate and drove away. He later claiming in the Court of Appeal that the waste was actually on the site.

Chief Justice Vincent De Gaetano presiding over the Court of Appeal said that Mr Attard had not obeyed the regulations that governed the waste site, and he therefore upheld the ruling of the first court.
