A 40-year-old man from Marsascala has been fined €300 after he was found guilty of damaging a car and breaching public peace following an incident with his ex-girlfriend and her new boyfriend in Marsascala.

The incident happened on December 3, 2006, when Francis Cassar was eating outside at Ta Grabiel at around 2.30 p.m. He was with his partner, who was his victim Kevin Cutajar’s former girlfriend, her parents and two children.

Mr Cutajar was driving from in front of the restaurant and had to stop at the traffic lights which turned red. He was with his girlfriend who had previously been Mr Cassar’s partner.

He told the court that when he stopped, the accused faced him and told him he could not be in the area because of a court order. He said that Charlie Richards, his ex’s father started to kick his car and then Mr Cassar joined him.

He said he drove straight to the Zabbar police station to lodge a report.

Mr Cassar however said that he heard someone calling him names and as the lights turned red, he realised that the name calling was coming from Mr Cutajar’s car.

He claimed that Mr Cutajar pointed a screwdriver at him as he called him names.
