An autopsy has established that the 92-year-old man at the centre of an inquiry at St Vincent de Paul home for the elderly died of natural causes

The man was allegedly slapped last July, an incident that led to a police investigation. A 42-year-old nursing aide, George Michael Spiteri of Fgura, was last August charged with slightly injuring the man. He was granted bail and the case is still pending.

The man died earlier this week at the home for the elderly in Luqa while the inquiry was still ongoing. Sources said foul play was ruled out after the autopsy, held as a matter of routine, found he had died of natural causes.
