Roger Agius, 36, from Birzebbuga, was today charged with threatening a number of police officers while he was under arrest following a brawl outside a bar.

The court, presided over by Magistrate Miriam Hayman, heard how the police were informed about a brawl outside a bar early yesterday morning.

A police officer who happened to be close by had to threaten to use pepper spray after the people involved in the brawl took it out against him for arriving when the fight had almost died down.

When Mr Agius was arrested and taken to the police station, he allegedly threatened the officers, telling them he knew where they lived.

He was also charged with disobeying police orders, breaching the peace and swearing in public.

He was granted bail against a personal guarantee of €10,000. Police Inspector Kevin Pulis prosecuted and lawyer Austin Gauci Maistre was defence counsel.

In another case, Libyan national Mohammed Hassan Ibrahim Amer, 31, was charged with seriously injuring another migrant during a fight at the Ħal Far open centre.

He allegedly threatened and then hit the victim with a metal pipe, causing him serious injuries.

Mr Amer pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against him and was remanded in custody as he had no fixed address.

Police Inspector Kevin Pulis prosecuted while lawyer Joseph Busuttil appeared for the man.
