A Welsh national living in Malta was yesterday charged with dealing in cannabis and being in possession of the drug.

Simon Douglas Roberts, 29, pleaded not guilty.

The prosecution is alleging that a surveillance operation led the police to a man who they caught in possession of almost one kilo of the drug.

Magistrate Audrey Demicoli granted Mr Roberts bail against a deposit of €500 and a €2,500 personal guarantee and ordered him to sign the bail book once a week.

The accused had already been on police bail since the search on April 30.

Police Inspector Malcolm Bondin prosecuted.
