A man who had been charged with maltreating animals was today conditionally discharged for a year.

Mario Cutajar, 45, of Birkirkara had been arraigned after he was found holding 25 fox terriers in cages in a field in a bad condition back in April 2009.

The dogs were found during an inspection after several reports had been lodged. The dogs, some of which had given suffering from skin disease, were given the necessary treatment and adopted.

But, according to evidence given by Animal Welfare Officers, Mr Cutajar has since learned how to keep animals in a good state.
