A 34-year-old man from Qormi was today acquitted of setting fire to the door of a residence belonging to the mayor of Qormi in January 2006.

Kenneth Camilleri was, however, found guilty of making threatening anonymous calls to the mayor, Jesmond Aquilina, and of misusing a mobile phone

For this, he received a six month jail term suspended for one year and was fined €2,300.

Magistrate Miriam Hayman said a lot of time and money would have been saved had the investigating officers waited for the conclusions of the experts’ inquiry report which completely exonerated the accused from the charges of setting fire to the door.
