Two sisters made up a story that their brother had raped one of them because he snitched on them to their father, a court was told.

The court today acquitted the 25-year-old man from Msida of raping his 12-year-old sister.  He had been charged with the rape when he was 19 and pleaded not guilty.

Testifying in the case, the man’s sister and 14-year-old brother had at first said that he had raped their 12-year-old sibling in their presence but then denied it ever happened.

The 12-year-old also changed her version from one that her brother had raped her to another that he had rubbed his genitals against hers.

Medical doctor Mariella Mangion said that she had examined the child for any signs of sexual abuse but did not find anything.

Magistrate Audrey Demicoli said she had been faced with many conflicting versions of what actually happened and in light of all these doubts her only option was to acquit the man.

Lawyer Mark Busuttil appeared for the accused.
