A man charged with seriously injuring a man in a fight at the Attard Labour Party Club was acquitted in court today as the evidence presented corroborated what was said by the accused.

Richard Vella had been charged with injuring John Bonnici in October 2009 when Mr Vella, a ‘director’ at the club had an argument with Mr Bonnici, a Labour councillor.

Mr Vella said in court that he was at the club when a drunk Mr Bonnici got into  arguments with him and others at the bar.

He asked him to leave the bar and while he, Mr Vella, was closing the door to the club, Mr Bonnici ran into it and fell on the floor.

He began shouting that they were hitting him even though there was no one around him.
