A 35-year-old man from Dingli was today cleared of trying to seriously injure another man and driving dangerously and negligently in Mdina Road, Attard in December 2008.

Dennis Sammut had filed a police report that Ian Bonello had driven a white van too close to him. The accused denied the accusations and argued that he had been dropping his child at his mother’s residence.

The two men knew each other and the relationship between them was bad because while Mr Bonello was in a relationship with Mr Sammut’s ex-wife, Mr Sammut had a relationship with Mr Bonello’s ex-girlfriend.

Mr Bonello also had a son with his former girlfrined.

Magistrate Doreen Clarke took into consideration the circumstances of the case and evidence presented.

She said she was not in position to resolve the conflict between the two men. Moreover, the court had lurking doubts about Mr Sammut’s version of events, which it could not prove beyond reasonable doubt.
