A 31-year-old man from Qala was this morning jailed two years suspended for four and fined €50 after pleading not guilty to stealing five gold rings and keeping stolen goods.

Jason Paul John Xerri was also charged with wearing a masking to make himself unrecognisable, violently resisting and disobeying a public officer and being in possession of shotgun cartridges without a police licence.

The accused was also ordered not to approach the police officer involved for a year against a guarantee of €800.
