A man was today remanded in custody after he pleaded not guilty to stealing €30,000 worth of copper from the yard of the former Malta Shipyards in Marsa.

Johann Joseph Spiteri, 33, also pleaded not guilty to causing damage at the yard and breaching the conditions of a previous release.

Lawyer Andy Ellul told the court that it was impossible for his client to have carried €30,000 worth of copper since his arms were weak from drug injecting.

Police Inspectors Tony Cachia and Spiridione Zammit argued that the accused he was not trustworthy and had been charged over a similar case just recently.
