A 50-year-old man from Birkirkara has been remanded in custody after pleading not guilty to making a bomb threat at the Law Courts last Wednesday at 9.17 a.m.

Joseph Brincat, also pleaded not guilty to misusing a mobile phone, breaching the conditions of a conditional discharge and breaching bail conditions.

Police inspector James Grech told the court that on the day Mr Brincat made the threat he was due to appear in front of Magistrate Doreen Clarke for a VAT sitting.

Lawyer Giannella Caruana Curran told the court that her client had a number of serious health issues and that remanding him in custody would not be the ideal situation.

She pointed out that when making his statement to the police, he had fallen ill and had to be taken to hospital.

But Inspector Grech insisted that given the seriousness of the charges, Mr Brincat should not to be granted bail.
