A 32-year-old man was yesterday remanded in custody after pleading not guilty to seriously injuring his teenage son with a sharp object in Fgura.

Magistrate Joseph Apap Bologna heard how Renald Vella, of Senglea allegedly caused the injury on Monday evening.

Crying and looking dishevelled, Mr Vella also denied slightly injuring Micheline Orsini of Fgura, causing damage of over €116 to her home, using a pointed instrument, threatening the two people and breaching public order. In requesting bail Lawyer Anġlu Farrugia told the court that his client had fully cooperated with the police in their investigations adding that Mr Vella had moved to his mother's home.

However, Police Inspector Spiridone Zammit objected saying that there is still a major disagreement between Mr Vella, his wife and their son, so granting bail might pose some risks.

Magistrate Apap Bologna remanded Mr Vella in custody after taking into consideration that he is currently residing at his mother's house which is close to the matrimonial home.
