A Birzebbuga man was this afternoon charged with slightly injuring another man and damaging private property following an altercation between the two.

Prosecuting inspector Johann Fenech told Magistrate Consuelo Scerri Herrera how an argument broke out between the accused, Leon Caruana, 31, and a certain Anthony Portelli also from Birzebbuga.

Following the incident, the accused went to the alleged victim's residence and started shattering window panes and also damaged the front door.
Mr Caruana was charged with threatening, assaulting and slightly injuring Mr Portelli, damaging his residence, harassing him and Lisa van der Kaaden and causing them to fear violence would be used against them.

He was also charged with damaging the property of Paul Attard of Safi.
Mr Caruana pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against him. He was granted bail against a €2,000 personal guarantee. She also issued a protection order for the alleged victims and ordered the accused not to approach them.
