An unemployed 24-year-old man who two days ago was allegedly found in possession of 767 ecstasy pills and 18 grams of cocaine this afternoon pleaded not guilty to all the charges brought against him but was remanded in custody as he could not afford to pay bail.

Tomislav Hegedus, a Maltese national was found in possession of the prohibited substances during a police raid in Pembroke, when he was detained while driving his car. A police statement issued today said that a second man who resisted arrest is due to be charged in the coming hours.

Police inspector Justine Grech also accused him of cannabis possession and of committing such crimes less than 100 metres from a school, club or a place frequented by youths.

Though the court presided by Magistrate Marseann Farrugia acceded to the man’s bail request he was nevertheless remanded in custody until he would find a guarantor willing to pay the €30,000 to secure his release from arrest.

Lawyer Roberto Montalto was defence counsel.
