A 44-year-old man was yesterday charged with the attempted murder of another man during an argument in Attard in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

Emanuel Farrugia of Sliema pleaded not guilty to trying to kill Carmelo Falzon, of Żabbar, and carrying a weapon without a licence.

Defence lawyer Toni Abela asked for bail, arguing that it was clear from the statement his client gave to the police that he was sorry about what had happened and had fully cooperated.

Police Inspector Elton Taliana replied that although it was true that Mr Falzon had cooperated with the police in their investigations, the charges are very serious and his criminal record is not clean. Moreover, witnesses still had to be heard.

Magistrate Silvio Meli remanded Mr Farrugia in custody. Mr Falzon was found lying in a pool of blood in Triq il-Kbira, Attard.

He had told the Police that he had been stabbed in Triq Tommaso Dingli.

He was rushed to Mater Dei Hospital and although he sustained grievous injuries, he was not in a critical condition.
