A 26-year-old man from St Venera was yesterday remanded in custody after denying connection to the discovery of a kilo of cannabis resin in the glove compartment of a car on Thursday night.

Inspector Nikolai Sant yesterday charged Timothy Joseph Agius with being in possession of large quantities of cannabis resin as well as an unspecified amount of cocaine, both of which were not for his personal use.

The police said the haul, which consisted of eight blocks of resin, was made following months of intensive investigations by the Drugs Squad. The police raided the car in Qormi Road, Ħamrun.

Mr Agius was also charged with committing such crimes within 100 metres of a school, club or any other place frequented by youths. The man, who pleaded not guilty, was not granted bail by Magistrate Joseph Mifsud and remanded in custody. Lawyer Roberto Montalto was defence counsel.
