A man from Swieqi assaulted and bit a police officer who caught him in possession of some 200 photographs of naked children.

Keith Falzon, 37, admitted to possessing hundreds of photographs found by the police on a memory card. Sources said the photographs showed naked children but were not hardcore child porn.

When he was approached by the police on Saturday, Mr Falzon resisted arrest, slightly injuring a police officer. He also pleaded guilty to disobeying police orders and committing the offence during the term of a suspended sentence handed down in 2013.

Magistrate Neville Camilleri warned Mr Falzon of the consequences of his admission, saying he had no option but to jail him. He postponed the case until May 28 and granted Mr Falzon bail against a personal guarantee of €5,000.

Police inspectors Sylvana Briffa and Edel Mary Camilleri prosecuted, while lawyer Roberto Montalto appeared for Mr Falzon.
