A man wielding a knife drove away after attempting to rob a lotto booth in Burmarrad yesterday afternoon but was arrested minutes later by mobile squad police who were immediately dispatched to the area.

The man asked the woman at the booth to hand over the cash but ran off after he realised she had hit the panic button, according to police sources. He drove off in a car but members of the police mobile squad were quick to intercept him.

He was arrested by Police Constable Alex Mizzi from the traffic section and Police Constable Jesmond Delicata from the Criminal Investigations Department.

The incident took place at around 5.30 p.m.
