A six-year-old boy's decision to fasten his seat belt saved him from serious injury this afternoon during a crash on the Rabat road, a relative said.

Young Isen Galea was in a Toyota Vitz with Matthew Dimech when they were involved in a crash with an Isuzu pick-up van coming from the opposite direction. The pick-up threw the small car some metres away and across the road.

Mr Dimech was trapped in the vehicle and has to be rescued. He was rushed to hospital and kept for observation. Isen was discharged after precautionary checks.

The crash took place close to the junction to Mt Carmel Hospital at about 12.30 p.m.The Isuzu was driven by a 54-year-old Gozitan who was not injured.
