A man was conditionally discharged today after admitting to attempting to blackmail then minister Jason Azzopardi a few weeks before the general election.

The court heard that Dennis Catania, had claimed title over a field held by the Joint Office in Gudja. He had discussed the matter with Dr Azzopardi and the Joint Office but was not granted title.

He admitted having threatened Dr Azzopardi in a phone call on February 11, saying he would distribute recordings of him. But later, after police investigations started, he apologised, saying he had no recordings and had been bluffing.
