Luke Bugeja, 27, of no fixed address today apologised in court to a police inspector whom he assaulted, punched and kicked within the law courts building yesterday.

Mr Bugeja was taken to court this morning and accused or the assault. He pleaded guilty and apologised.

He will be sentenced on Monday.

Mr Bugeja was first arraigned last week and accused of damaging a CCTV camera.

Yesterday he was accused of resisting arrest. The assault happened as he was escorted out of the hall after a magistrate refused him bail. 

The magistrate remanded him in custody.

Mr Bugeja pushed Police Inspector Saviour Baldacchino to the floor and kicked him in the chest. It took four police inspectors and a further three other policeman to put handcuffs on him.
