Matthew Camilleri, 25 of Gzira, this afternoon admitted in court to having stolen €1000 in cash from the till of Kebab Ji Lebanese Cuisine and Grill in Sliema, where he worked. He also admitted relapsing.

Mr Camilleri is the brother of Thomas Camilleri, who last week was jailed for three years for circulating counterfeit money, having returned to Malta after escaping from a Tunisian jail.

Lawyers Gianluca Caruana Curran and Noel Bianchi discussed the case at the Bench with Police Inspector Jason Sultana.

The accused then admitted to the charges.

Magistrate Gabriella Vella took into consideration the fact that the money had been returned, and placed Mr Camilleri on probation. She warned him that if he committed another crime within three years, the Magistrate would not give him another chance.
