Mustafa Ahmed El Gamoudi, a 42-year-old Libyan national, was today jailed for eight-and-a-half
years after pleading guilty to seriously injuring his wife and raping her.
The case happened on September 10, 2006 at their home in Mellieha.
The court heard that after an argument between the two, Mr El Gamoudi assaulted his wife and tried to strangle her with a rope.
He also tied her up and raped her.
The man had started to tighten the rope around his wife's neck but she managed to break free and run off.
Sentence was delivered after a plea bargain agreement.
