Jean Paul Mamo, 31 from St Paul’s Bay, this evening pleaded guilty before Magistrate Joseph Apap Bologna to having tried to seriously injure two policemen by using a syringe in an incident at Mosta police station yesterday.

He also pleaded guilty to assaulting and threatening the policemen, disobeying police orders and breaching public order.

The prosecution and defence teams both agreed that a suspended jail term would be the correct punishment for him.

Before handing down judgment Magistrate Apap Bologna took into consideration Mr Mamo’s apology to the policemen and to the court and the fact that he suffered from drug abuse.

He ordered six months imprisonment suspended for two years.
