Marlon Camilleri, 30 of Hamrun, who yesterday allegedly waved a pistol at pedestrians after jumping a red light, today broke down in tears when he was remanded in custody after having been accused of yesterday's incident in Hamrun, as well as the theft of two cars.

His girlfriend, Giannella Meilak, was also accused of the theft of the cars with him. She pleaded guilty and was condemned to a two year jail term suspended for four years.

When he walked into the courtroom, Mr Camilleri told the Magistrate 'I know what I did was wrong'. His lawyer told him to keep quiet and to stick to what had been discussed outside the court room.

He pleaded not guilty to stealing two cars, damaging a car, disobeying orders, pointing a pistol at pedestrians while driving - the gun turned out to be  a bb gun - slightly injuring a policeman, resisting arrest, possession of cannabis, breaching the peace and injuring the owner of one of the stolen vehicles.

Police Inspector Robert Vella said Mr Camilleri had a number of previous and similar cases pending against him and asked for bail to be denied.

The court denied bail, whereupon Mr Camilleri burst into tears.
