Jason Galea, the man accused of murdering Mario Camilleri known as L-Imniehru, his son Mario and taxi driver Matthew Zahra has managed to raise the €60,000 he required to be released on bail.

The Camilleris had been found buried in a shallow grave in a field in Qajjenza while Mr Zahra's remains were found later in another part of the same field.

Sources close to the Law Courts said Mr Galea paid €30,000 in cash to be granted bail for the Camilleri murder case and funded the other €30,000 needed for bail for the Zahra murder case by using property as a guarantee.

Bail had been granted in July but Mr Galea did not have the required amount to be released.

Despite being out of jail, he was under house arrest and had to sign the bail book at the police station twice a day.
