A 70-year-old man was this morning conditionally discharged for two years after he pleaded guilty to smashing the windscreen of a bus that nearly ran him over.

Giorgio Magri, from Marsa, pleaded guilty to punching the bus on its windscreen after it almost hit him as he was crossing the road close to his home.

Under shock and in a fit of anger, the man proceeded to repeatedly punch the bus on its windscreen.

He admitted causing the damage and apologised for his behaviour, justifying that he had done that because he was under shock.

Through his lawyer, Maxilene Pace, the man paid €431 for the damage he had caused.

In conditionally discharging him, Magistrate Antonio Vella told Mr Magri that he did not smash any windscreens when he was frightened by something.
