A 67-year-old man from Tarxien was remanded in custody today after threatening his partner of 18 years.

He was charged with making violent threats, resisting arrest and being drunk in public.

It is understood that when he was arrested and taken to the police station, he said he would "cut off her head and serve it on a plate".

Legal aid lawyer Joe Ellis requested bail but prosecuting officer Hubert Cini objected, arguing that the man and his partner lived together and that the woman was very frightened.

Magistrate Doreen Clarke denied the request for bail and ordered that witnesses be asked to testify in the next sitting.
